Insulators prevent current leakage from high-voltage conductors to the ground. Heavy-duty insulators use porcelain (for durability), tempered glass (pollution resistance), or polymers (lightweight and corrosion-resistant). They are tested to withstand extreme weather: UV radiation, heavy rain, ice accumulation, and salt spray, ensuring long-term performance. Surge arresters protect components from transient overvoltages (lightning strikes or switching operations). Using metal-oxide varistors (MOVs), they divert excess voltage to the ground, limiting voltage across sensitive equipment. Their fast response time and high energy absorption capacity prevent damage and maintain grid stability. Collectively, these components ensure grid resilience and efficiency. As electricity demand grows and renewables integrate into grids, smarter, eco-friendly innovations—like SF6-free circuit breakers and self-monitoring insulators—will shape sustainable, future-proof power infrastructure.
